The Denver men's lacrosse team staged a dramatic comeback against Johns Hopkins, scoring two goals in the final minute of regulation to force overtime and ultimately securing a 13-12 victory. Despite trailing 11-7 entering the fourth quarter, Denver rallied with JJ Sillstrop scoring the final four goals, including the game-tying shot as time expired using the from 20 yards out. The San Diego Native (Sillstrop) ties the game using some old tricks.
What most people did not realize was this technique was created by John Hopkins' back in the 70's. They would call it the "Hopkins' Hop"
The 2nd segment of the video features Johnny Hopkins' All-American, Bob DeSimone ('77), scoring a goal using the coined term "Hopkins' Hop." This technique involves a player screening the goalie and leaping when the ball passes by...why don't we see this more often?
Why didn't the goalie just lay down on the ground like a Walrus? The shot clearly had to be shot low from so far out...this might be the only way to neutralize the Hopkin's Hop.
Sillstrop's performance was instrumental in Denver's win and , as he scored the decisive goal just over two minutes into the extra period, capping off at 6 goals when taking John Hopkins to the bank...keep the change.
